In January we chose our word for the year, change, and set some goals to go along with it. We keep our goals pretty broad and simple on purpose. The last thing we need is to feel like we can’t achieve them. Goals should be something that help motivate you not something that makes life harder. Recently, I was finding that I was getting overwhelmed when trying to make sure that I had managed all of my goals for each week. It became more of a chore and less about growth. So, instead of feeling overwhelmed and like I had failed at my goals, I kicked them out! I decided the best thing for all of us was to dial it back and work on things one at a time.
I have a routine that I do each night before I go to sleep (perhaps that is a blog post for another time). Now, as part of that routine, I choose one thing to focus on or work towards for the next day. Sure, I have work tasks, meals to cook, a house to clean, and kids to wrangle but this way I am only adding one thing to the mix. One small change or one small step towards our larger goals is so much more manageable. Yesterday, my “Just One” was finding a new meal to try this week (I’ve been feeling stuck with our meal planning). A few days ago it was to try and use my essential oils in one new way.
Are these things small? Yes. But I’m okay with that. We are in a really busy season of life right now and small is what we can do. Will it always be this way? No. As things settle and we adjust I see us being able to make bigger changes and tackle more in depth projects.
It’s okay to change, it’s okay to scale back, to adjust, and to take on just one thing at a time. If you are feeling overwhelmed, give this a try and let us know how its working for you.
