Our family doctor is very natural minded, which is one of the biggest reasons we chose to see him. One of his favorite remedies to suggest during cold season is garlic. Our sore throat soother is his recipe too. Garlic is great for reducing the amount of virus in your system and can help open up a stuffy nose. Our doctor recommends garlic oil popcorn as a way to encourage kids to get garlic into their systems (what kid can resist fresh popped popcorn?) so today I’m sharing his recipe with you. Enjoy!
Cold Fighting Garlic Oil Popcorn
Melt 3 tablespoons of coconut oil (coconut oil has anti-viral properties) in the bottom of a large pan.
Add 1/3rd of a cup of popping corn (non-GMO verified is best) and warm over medium heat (occasionally shaking the pan back and forth to get the kernels moving). Make sure the lid is on!
Keep shaking and popping until the popping slows down and it looks like most of the kernels are open.
Melt 4 tablespoons of grassfed butter or coconut oil in small pan.
Add 4 cloves of finely minced garlic (I use a food chopper) and stir for a few minutes. You don’t want to cook the garlic but warming it up will help release some of the oils.
Dump the popcorn in a big old bowl, add the garlic oil / butter and some real salt to taste, and get to cold fighting!
